ABOUT ME
Pastor:
Bishop Jarret R. Spence
My name is Jarret Spence. I would like to tell you a little about my life leading up to becoming the pastor of The Church of Jesus Christ here in Portage, Indiana. I was born and raised in Huntington, West Virginia. In 1968-1970, I served in the US Army during the Vietnam War. Upon returning, I moved to Chicago, Illinois where I worked at United States Steel Corp. I later moved to Hammond, Indiana where I was fortunate enough to meet my future wife, Judy. We married in 1972. We eventually moved to Portage, Indiana and began attending The Church of Jesus Christ. In our 40 years of marriage, we have been blessed with two children, Jarret and Melissa. They, in turn have married and given us several granddaughters! I accepted my calling into the ministry under Bishop Richard Lee in 1975. Eight years later, when the Lord called Bishop Lee home, I took over as pastor of The Church of Jesus Christ in Portage. I’ve been pastoring the church for 30 years and counting. I’m very thankful for all of God’s blessings on our church and in my family.
